Before heading to November’s stock pick, DIY Subscribers are reviewing October 2023 performance and life-to-date returns of almost 10%. Whilst many income investors counted only on dividend payout and ignored the Fed, we listened to the central bank like a hawk since 2021.

The total return is 9.6%. More importantly, the hurdle rate for capital rose to 5.39%, up from 5.2%. The risk-free return from Schwab’s money market fund is 5.40% (for a $1M balance). This is despite treasury yields falling last week. We currently have 17.4% in stocks, and 82.6% in cash on a $217,180 model.
